If you’ve been on a detox and are getting ready to reintroduce dairy, there are a few things you need to consider….

 

Once dairy products have been removed from your diet long enough to cleanse the system, a careful reintroduction process can tell you if you are intolerant to these types of foods.

If, however, no unpleasant symptoms develop as the result of dairy reintroduction, you can reasonably conclude that you do not currently have a milk allergy.

There are many dairy products on the market that contain high levels of toxins.

These can be damaging to the body. Having worked hard to reduce your body’s toxic load, it is vital that the foods you reintroduce are clean and healthy to avoid reestablishing a toxic burden.

Commercial cow’s milk is often from livestock treated with hormones, antibiotics, and pesticide exposure.

Although the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) feel these substances exist at safe levels, there are countless studies which show the opposite. This goes for all products made with milk: cheeses, butter, yogurt, sour cream, etc.

Goats and sheep are less likely to have these toxic substances in their milk, but you must carefully read labels of all dairy products to ensure you’re only getting clean, healthy milk products.

This is not to say that dairy is necessarily bad for you. If it is not causing an inflammatory response in the body, then there is no reason to avoid it. But the dairy products you ingest should always be of the highest quality.

Butter should be yellow reflecting the enzymes produced when cattle graze on green grass.

White butter is what comes from grain-fed cows and is deficient in many of the beneficial nutrients found in grass-fed cows. Raw milk is one of the healthiest substances on earth, but without pasteurization is it quite unstable and has a short shelf life. If you are going to drink raw cow’s milk, it is crucial that you get it from a trusted source.

Eggs are a wonderful way to get protein and healthy fat into the body.

But they, too, are often mass produced in a way that is damaging to their nutrient profile and inhumane to the chickens. Poultry birds that roam on pasture land and can eat insects lay the most nutrient-dense eggs. Local farmer’s markets often sell these eggs, and by working with a reliable source you can more easily ensure that the pasture land is pesticide free and the chicken feed is vegetarian and free of antibiotics and growth hormones.
